Route 66 is the handiwork of American songwriter Bobby Troup who was living the dream while he was writing the song ... in a new 1941 Buick.

The Route 66 song captured the spirit of this iconic California-bound highway. The song had an upbeat tempo, a contagious melody and lyrics that almost literally drove home the spirit of America’s “best road west.”

In the early years, Troup served as Captain in the U.S. Marines. When he returned he decided he wanted to be a songwriter. Troup grew up in a family with an appreciation for music. His father played the piano and his family owned music stores in the region.
